The full-size fun of the KLX230R trail bike means it’s time to Get Out And Play. Take on terrain with nimble handling and plenty of power, while kicking up some serious dirt along the way. Long-travel suspension paired with improved low-speed control give this bike a sporty feel that stands out among the rest. Finished with styling inspired by the KX lineup, the highly capable, lightweight package of the KLX230R brings a heavy dose of fun to every off-road ride.
When the road is challenging, the new KLX230R is ready with longer wheel travel and ample ground clearance. Thicker seat cushioning makes bumpy trails a pleasure to ride, while the great performance of the tried-and-true engine has been augmented with a balancer for an even more enjoyable and useful offroad machine, and a larger fuel tank means more time on the trail between fill-ups.
Providing a light, maneuverable package has been a key consideration since the KLX230R was originally designed. It’s simple air-cooled engine and easy handling perimeter frame contribute to a compact package, while the balance between the engine and frame results in performance that can be enjoyed by a wide range of riders.
A 7.6 litre fuel tank (compared to the previous model’s 6.6 litres) adds more range and allows longer intervals between refueling for more fun riding time. The fuel tank also features a key-operated tank cap.
Designed from the start for dirt-riding use, the high tensile steel perimeter frame offers the handling stability needed for confident trail riding. The seat height is 20 mm lower to make the machine easier to use, which combined with an overall more balanced rider’s triangle (handlebars, seat and footpegs) suits a wider range of riders.
The latest KX series’ “Aggressive & Agile” design concept is retained, with a flat design that flows from the front to rear fender, creating a sense of unity and a sharp overall look. The smooth bodywork was designed to have as few protruding parts as possible to facilitate moving around, contributing to excellent ergonomics.
The KLX230R’s newly designed seat has 6 mm thicker urethane for a more comfortable ride, while retaining a flat silhouette that offers the rider freedom of movement, resulting in a very comfortable yet highly functional seat for off-road riding.
The handlebars are 25 mm further forward than the previous model’s to match the lower seat height, offering the rider excellent control, which translates to improved handling when cornering. The footpegs are 9 mm further to the rear to achieve a riding position with added control.
The KLX230R’s updated engine offers more low- to midrange torque for low-speed control, resulting in a rider-friendly engine character and linear acceleration. This combined with the low-speed feeling makes this play bike even more fun than before.
Ample wheel travel is available at the at the front and rear thanks to an ideally-suited suspension, while large diameter aluminium wheels, measuring 21” at the front and 18” at the rear efficiently navigate trails, the combination of which greatly contributes to trail-riding performance.
