The Kawasaki branch manufacturing motorcycles and engines is the only part of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. which directly supplies products to individual customers.

The company manufactures a wide array of products, including motorcycles, four-wheel vehicles (all-terrain vehicles – ATV, utility task vehicles – UTV, recreational utility vehicles – RUV), Jet Ski® watercraft and combustion engines for varied applications, supplied e.g. to manufacturers of gardening equipment all around the world.

The founder of Kawasaki brand was Shozo Kawasaki. It all started back in 1878.

KAWASAKI HEAVY INDUSTRIES is a company of global reach, present in many industries and remaining at the forefront of enterprises creating and implementing modern technologies.

Kawasaki started the serial production of motorcycles in 1962 with model B8125. The engine for this vehicle was built on the basis of knowledge gathered during designing of aviation engines. The constant development of new technologies allowed to seamlessly expand the business into the motorcycle industry. Throughout the years Kawasaki has designed multiple models, which shaped the market and became legends of power and speed. 1996 was a milestone year for Kawasaki; it was the moment, when 10,000,000th vehicle was produced, which was a symbol of KHI’s ability to fulfil a wide range of needs of sport contestants and customers of the brand. The mission of Kawasaki is “to create a better tomorrow”, and the latest vehicles are already considered to be legendary.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (KHI) builds modern, 21st century transport systems. These efforts are supported by 100 years of versatile experience and a heritage of engineering philosophy. The marine fleets are getting bigger, quicker, more automated, and their energy consumption is falling. Kawasaki pioneered the technology of LPGD (liquefied natural gas) as a ship fuel. Other technologies used in aviation also found its application within the marine transport development, and the perfect example is “Jetfoil” – TurboJET, which accelerates to 45 knots on water. Another design executed in one of the Japanese shipyards is named “Techno Superliner”. The new vessel is intended to carry loads of up to 1,000 tonnes at 50 knots.

KHI has manufactured the trains for the world-famous Shinkansen Bullet railway for many years. At the moment it is working on the new generation of Shinkansen rapid trains, which will allow travelling at an average speed of 240 km/h. Kawasaki experience vastly exceeds the development and manufacturing of rolling stock. Kawasaki engineers have integrated systems, enabling to control the mileage and supplies, and to repair the rolling stock.

As far as aviation technology is concerned, Kawasaki is involved in designing of aircraft engines. Kawasaki is manufacturing the MBB K117 helicopter and parts for the current Boeing passenger planes. KHI participates in research and development of an environmentally-friendly small aircraft engine. Kawasaki is a leading actor in the Supersonic (SST) transport project. Aircrafts will travel at the altitude of 60,000 – 90,000 metres at the speed of 2.5 Mach and will contain a passenger compartment for 200–300 persons.

Kawasaki technologies beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.
Kawasaki is also cooperating with NASDA agency, currently the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). In the area of “N” complex, the launch pad for space rockets, Kawasaki is involved in the work on the experimental land survey satellite project.

The Civil Engineering department at Kawasaki helped to expand the cities, new bridges and high-rise buildings. The participation in construction of the Eurotunnel, connecting France and England, was a success, as the tunnel makers used two drilling rigs designed and manufactured by KHI. The company also assembled the world’s biggest machine for construction of the Trans-Tokyo Bay highway bridge with diameter of 46 m. After the route is completed, it will be the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Kawasaki applies its best effort to remain in harmony with nature in its activities. The company is promoting environmentally-friendly solutions and focuses on technologies and alternative power sources, which help to protect the environment.

A perfect example is the Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) using natural gas for start-up of the turbines driving the power generators. Flue gas heat is used for manufacturing of additional electricity. The recycling system uses municipal heat network to heat up the water and for cooling units in order to limit the flue gas emission generated by the power plant.
